Rooted in History. Designed for Real Life.
Bluebird Design Company is the architectural practice of Annie Mathot, a licensed architect with over 25 years of experience designing homes and communities with care, craft, and context in mind. Annie brings a deep respect for tradition, a love of detail, and a collaborative spirit to every project—whether it’s a full home renovation, a new build grounded in its surroundings, or a thoughtful addition to an existing structure.
With a strong foundation in both residential architecture and urban planning, Annie offers a rare balance of big-picture thinking and meticulous attention to detail. Her work is guided by a simple philosophy: great design should serve the people who live in it, reflect the character of its setting, and stand the test of time.
Meet the Architect
Annie Mathot is the founder and principal architect behind Bluebird Design Company. She is known for her thoughtful, contextual designs and her ability to bring clarity to even the most complex projects. Annie began her career at Urban Design Associates in Pittsburgh, where she contributed to large-scale community revitalization plans, campus developments, and urban design guidelines across the country. After moving to Virginia, she spent nearly two decades at Frazier Associates, serving as lead residential architect. There, she led projects ranging from new homes and additions to historic tax credit rehabilitations and multi-family developments. She has worked extensively within historic districts, earning multiple preservation and infill development awards from the Historic Staunton Foundation.
In 2024, Annie launched Bluebird Design Company to focus on the kind of work that matters most to her—helping homeowners, nonprofits, and communities create spaces that are grounded in history, designed for real life, and built with care.
